Many Lasers and Intense Pulse Light Systems treat and remove unwanted hair in the same way.
Energy is produced in the form of a very powerful light and this is applied to the surface of
the skin. The pigment in the hair absorbs this light which is transmitted to the root of the hair.
As light is absorbed this powerful energy is converted to heat which damages the point at which
new hair cells are produced.
It is important to understand that the hair must be attached to the root in order to achieve
this and therefore only hair which is growing is affected.
The amount of hair growing at any one time varies depending on the area to be treated which
is why you will need more than one session.
Dark hair is treated more easily than light hair as is lighter skin but we do have a number of
systems and are therefore able to offer you a treatment profile based upon your hair and skin type.
We also offer the very latest and most up-to-date treatments available in the world today using
digital electrolysis. Although each hair is treated individually the follicle is destroyed whatever
the colour of the skin or hair and whatever stage the hair growth cycle is.
For more than 100 years, the only recognised method of truly permanent hair removal has
been electrolysis. With this technique, a fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle and
low intensity electric current is applied. This treatment is called galvanic electrolysis and
produces an ion exchange in the follicle. This reaction creates a chemical, Sodium Hydroxide
which effectively dissolves and destroys the root. A later method was developed called Diathermy
which produces heat which also destroyed the root. Blend electrolysis is a combination of the
two, first heat which increases the effect of the ion exchange created by the galvanic action.
The problem with these methods is that, although effective in destroying the root of the hair,
they are time consuming, painful and can damage the surrounding tissue resulting in what is
referred to as "orange peel skin".
Whilst this basic technique is still in use today, the creators of Apilus® were convinced
that electrolysis could be much more efficient and comfortable if this established therapy could
be integrated with modern technologies. They perfected a computer assisted system that concentrates
and controls the electric current so that only the germinative cells are destroyed. These
developments also allowed much more use of insulated probes further ensuring that the treatment
remained highly selective whatever the profile of the client, anatomical area or follicle state.
Some systems offer Permanent Hair Reduction whilst others only Long-term Reduction. At TransGirl we
use systems which are clinically proven to give Permanent Reduction.
